Last Summer
As young Helsing is questioned as a suspect in a murder investigation, the footage saved on his camcorder begins to reveal a much darker conspiracy in his rural town.
Original and Independent
In the summer of 2019, I found myself without a job for the first time ever. Wanting to get into film, I seized the opportunity and gathered my friends to make our own film. Every aspect was designed, conceived, and executed by students, all for less than $200. Utilizing the natural aesthetic of our hometown, we designed the movie to use what we already had.
My Roles
Co-Director
Last Summer was shot as a found footage in order to eliminate the need for a cameraman. As a result, many scenes were just the actors and directors. The role was shared between myself and my writer/Detective Digby Baker-Porazinski.
Editor
This was my first time ever editing something of this scale. 100% of the video and audio editing was done personally, for better or worse. Through the process, I learned a lot about what it takes to make a good scene, and took away a lot of lessons on how to shoot our next project.
VFX
From bruises to crossbows, I did it all. This movie originally came from my desire to build animatronics, which led to me building a moving hand using pneumatic cylinders. I also took on the role of producing all of the props used in the film, including a functional crossbow. I also learned some effects makeup to add the bruises and cuts you can see on Johnny throughout the film. See the gallery below for all of my effects in this film.
