I can’t paint

So I built a robot to do it for me

Imagine a world where every blank wall was a painting

Painting murals can be a difficult, time-consuming, and expensive endeavor for any business owner. By automating the process, we can expand the market and offer services to a wider range of people who previously may not have considered a mural, or ruled it out due financial or other limitations.

With Bot Ross, we can paint large-scale, custom murals on just about any vertical surface. This process saves time and money while making your space more vibrant and inviting.

Perfect for schools, business parks, apartment builds, and more, Bot Ross is making his way to a mural near you!

From my basement, to your wall

As was the case for many people, 2020 changed a lot of my plans. I ended up at back home, living with my parents in NY. I knew I wanted to build a robot and now I had all the time in the world to do it. I got to work building a wall in my basement and hanging my first prototype from it.

Over the next year I tested and developed the robot to paint larger, faster, more consistent murals. Finally, I was able to set it up on a bigger wall and paint better murals.

The future is bright for Bot Ross. We’re entering a phase of development to get it ready for your wall. Want to learn more? Feel free to reach out.

“Build a robot that can paint a vertical wall”

This was the project description for my ES3100 Controls class at WPI. Simple enough, right? It didn’t specify specific colors, area to paint, size of the robot, or anything else. In actuality, the robot didn’t even have to exist, as one team simply designed theirs in Solidworks.

Looking at my team of 5 robotics engineers, I knew we could do more than that. I had always wanted to build a robot that could make art, and here was my chance. So I set us a couple of goals: 3 colors, variable paintings, and completely independent.

This project is where Bot Ross was born. After 7 weeks of hard work, my team had created the first prototype, and I learned a lot of lessons along the way that would have a major influence over the direction of my design.
